SUCCESS
FACTORS
Since
early 1994 Uview, through its various subsidiaries has been
designing, hosting, marketing and managing websites for a wide range
of clients in many and varied fields.
Steerage
Information & Marketing trading as Steerage Marine has successfully
introduced a wide range of South African marine manufacturers and
their products to the international market resulting in export revenue
for the country in this field alone estimated to be in excess of $500
million over a ten year period.
The
majority of this revenue has been derived from the establishment of
an extensive international agency network by many of Steerage's clients
as a direct result of their online presence (business to business
commerce).......... a presence which has been responsible for the
sale of numerous 35' - 50' cruising catamarans by various manufacturers
as well as a comprehensive range of quality full and reinforced inflatable
craft, consoles and other fittings to the recreational, commercial
and military markets worldwide. Considerable income has also been
derived from the export and contract management of recreational Daysailer
catamarans and equipment and materials for the establishment of buoy
demarcation systems in the Indian Ocean Islands.
Proactive
marketing of tourism and tourist activity related websites has also
resulted in considerable revenue from abroad for many of the client
operators involved, just as it has for a number of those Real Estate
Agency operators who have taken their internet presence seriously
and actively advertised their URL's. Many success stories can be derived
from this sector of Uview's subsidiaries ......... quantifying
the success however is somewhat different from the manufacturing sector
as much of the business is inter-agency related and ultimately commission
based with no-one actually able to measure the gross cost of a package
or the cash value of 'tourist spend' in the country as a result of
that package. In terms of the Uview client base it is however
thought to be considerable with a fair percentage being derived directly
as a result of the marine sales activity.
As
a result of the establishment of the African International Shopping
Mall in 1996, and the subsequent merchant partner status which this
operation achieved within the ambits of the ITU's ECDC (Electronic
Commerce for Developing Countries), a considerable amount of art and
artifacts from practically all of the sub-Saharan countries have been
sold to individuals, collectors, traders around the world as well
as to institutions such as the Mask Museum in Mauritius and Disney's
Animal Kingdom in Florida.
